For some time it was unclear whether the BTCC season would actually go ahead, but with a revised schedule that was compressed into just 3.5 months we went for it. With sponsors sticking by teams and drivers in uncertain times as well as the circuits hosting the events with no crowds or income, the 2020 BTCC was able to go ahead. So much effort and sacrifice went into making it happen and here we are now going into the finale at Brands Hatch!
It’s been an intense season in which I’ve experienced the high and lows of Touring Car racing, but I’m keen to hold onto the positive moments as it as been a tremendous year for me and the Motorbase Performance crew. 2 pole positions, 2 race wins and 5 further podiums says it all and we should be very proud of what we’ve achieved.
I set a goal of arriving into the final race weekend of 2020 having a chance of winning the Drivers Championship and, albeit slim, I have achieved just that and learned a whole lot along the way. I’m sitting fifth in the standings and plan to focus on having a successful weekend, getting the most out of the team and myself in every session. If we do our jobs then who knows, maybe fourth or third overall could be on the cards!
It’s mid-winter so freezing cold and changeable conditions are to be expected, but we will need to adapt to the revised timetable to accommodate daylight saving hours. On Saturday we have a single Free Practice session, so we will need to work efficiently to find the ideal setup ahead of qualifying. On Sunday we have our normal three races, however everything is running earlier than normal, although there’s a good chance it’ll be dark when the chequered flag drops!
I’d like to say a big thank you to all my sponsors who have stood by me during these uncertain times, I am very grateful for your continued support.
Keep track of all my results vis TSL timing and qualifying is also live streamed on ITV.com on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday, all three races will be broadcast live on ITV4 as well as ITV.com.
