I’m so happy to say that the 2019 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship is almost here – it’s been a long time coming! The season launch took place at Brands Hatch on the 27th March and it was the first time we were on track with all our competition. The top guys try not to show their hand too much but we still got a good feeling of where we will stack up come Round 1 at Brands Hatch on April 7th.
The season launch was open to the fans and they flocked to Brands Hatch, giving it the feel of a mini touring car meeting. It’s refreshing to feel the buzz and hype of the BTCC again!
This marked the end of our pre-season testing programme and we learned a lot ahead of the first event. We clocked up many miles with qualifying and race simulations and spent good periods of time at the top of the time sheets – ending the day 5th overall.
The field is as strong as ever with five previous champions and over 17 BTCC race winners, so we’ll have our work cut out. But, this year our confidence is sky high with the right driver line up, team personnel and chassis, I know we can do good things together!
Uncharacteristically I managed to secure my 2019 BTCC seat before the Christmas break, giving me extra time to train, prepare and work with all my sponsors who will be joining me on this journey. The down side was that I had 5 months of itchy feet, mainly wondering what the Honda would actually feel like, so I’m absolutely buzzing to be kicking the season off in just over a weeks time.
